Common questions
Can you join a Phong Nha tour as a solo traveler?
Yes, every cave tour at Oxalis and Jungle Boss runs as a mixed group. Solo travelers are normal and welcomed, no single supplement on the camping trips.
How big are the groups?
Six to twelve people on most trips, plus the operator team (guides, safety, porters, cook). Son Doong is capped at ten. Hang Va is around eight. The smaller the cave, the smaller the group.
Are small-group tours cheaper than private?
Yes, significantly. A 2-day cave tour as part of a group is around $300 to $400 per person; the private version of the same is often double.
What if I'm a solo traveler with my own dates: will a group still run?
Yes, the operators run scheduled departures and you join whichever date works. Hang En and Hang Pygmy depart 4 to 6 times a week in dry season, less in shoulder. If a date has only one or two people booked, operators usually still run it rather than cancel, especially Oxalis.
What's the cancellation policy on group cave tours?
Industry norm: full refund or free reschedule 30+ days out, partial refund 14 to 29 days, deposit-only refund inside 14 days, no refund inside 48 hours. Weather cancellations on the operator's side are always rescheduled or refunded. Insurance covers your end.
