A semi-automatic scooter runs around $6 (150,000 VND/day, prices checked June 2026), a manual Honda Win around $10 (250,000 VND/day). Petrol is roughly $1 (25,000 VND/litre) and a tank covers most loops. Most guesthouses include a helmet and rough map.
Do I need a licence to ride a motorbike in Phong Nha?
Technically yes, Vietnam requires an International Driving Permit with the A1 motorcycle endorsement, and your travel insurance almost certainly demands the same. Police checks in town are rare but they happen. Ride to your skill level and wear the helmet properly.
Is it safe to motorbike in the national park?
On sealed roads, yes, traffic is light and the surface is decent. Off-road is the risk: there's still unexploded ordnance from the war in the jungle, so do not push bikes down random tracks. Stick to marked roads and the loops everyone rides.
